"It's been a passion project of mine," notes Emily Meyer, Tea's Chief Creative Officer and Co-founder. This first women's clothing collection uses colors, textiles, and silhouettes that look to capture the beauty, color, and diversity of Hungary, Romania and Croatia.

Drawing from diverse inspirations, this modern, wearable collection of sweaters, layering pieces, and scarves is full of the rich tones and patterns found in the decorative arts and architecture of Budapest and the hand-woven blankets of Romania. The collection pays homage to Tea's roots in sweaters, with the luxurious and handmade feel that comes from natural fibers like pima cotton and merino wool.

The collection of sweaters, knit tops, and scarves is available online at teacollection.com. The prices for the current line range from $52 to $198.

Author Celebrates American Freedoms, Teaches Patriotism

Two boys venture out on a thrilling hunt for secret treasure and learn all about the rich history of their North Carolina community and the immigrants responsible for founding America and defining its spirit in The Lost Treasure of Lincoln County: A Great American Adventure (published by AuthorHouse), the lighthearted new fiction geared towards older children and adults by Nancy Sifford Alana.

Jonas and Dale are two 10-year-old boys who live across the street from each other in the close-knit community of Lincolnton, N.C. They also happen to be best friends and spend lots of time outdoors, exploring all around their neighborhood and enjoying the simplicity of small-town, late 1950s life.

While playing around the nearby creek one day, Dale and Jonas discover an old box buried in the mud of the creek bank. After unearthing the container, the boys open it to find an old piece of yellowed paper wrapped in a velvet cloth with a faded photo of a man, woman and several small children. The name "Sifford" is written on the back, along with the date 1840. An examination of the paper reveals several squiggly lines and circles, and the "X" marked on it leads the boys to conclude that it's likely a treasure map of some sort.

Eager to solve the mystery of the identity of the people in the photograph and curious about what the map might lead to, Dale and Jonas spend hours researching Lincoln County history and learn a lot of facts about the area, but nothing leads them any closer to the answers they seek. The librarian suggests that they visit the most knowledgeable historian around, and the chums are shocked to learn that his name is none other than Harry Sifford.

Hopeful that Mr. Sifford will confirm their belief that they've found a treasure map and be able to shed light on the Sifford family, the boys bring the box and it's contents to the kindly old scholar. He's asto Tips: Find Street Fashion Online(may be you can find what you want on the oasap.com) nished at what they've found and agrees that the paper does indeed appear to be a treasure map. According to Lincoln County history, a German immigrant named Johann Leonard Sifford brought a box with him to America, a box that was used to store valuables and passed down to his son, John, who happens to be the very man pictured in the old photograph.

Mr. Sifford becomes like a grandfather figure to Dale and Jonas as he helps them unravel the mystery before them. With an emphasis on patriotism, The Lost Treasure of Lincoln County imparts lessons about the principles that America was founded upon and reminds readers about the freedoms and opportunities all citizens have to achieve the American Dream. Will the boys and their mentor find fortune and riches with the aid of the cryptic treasure map? The answer lies in the pages of The Lost Treasure of Lincoln County, an educational book that hearkens back to a less complicated time.

She also volunteers with Christian Women's Job Corps, the Hood County Substance Abuse Council and Operation School Supplies. A List Of High Quality Hotels In Dubai For Nigerian Wholesale Buyers

In addition to this short and concise article, the wholesale for Nigeria website offers many other tips, strategies, and ideas for people involved in the fashion industry in Nigeria. For example, there are tips on how to better sell dresses to high end buyers in Lagos, Abuja, and Port Harcourt, ideas on how to select the best office suits for Nigerian bankers, and recommendations for dealing with New York wholesalers.

"Nigerian retailers are very sophisticated and will travel internationally to purchase wholesal Tips: Find Street Fashion Online(may be you can find what you want on the oasap.com) e apparel for their stores. I know Nigerians who visit wholesale showrooms in New York, Dubai, and China, while others will be satisfied with placing orders online from reputable wholesalers," said Donny Lowy, who has a wholesale dress, suit, shoe, handbag, and general clothing warehouse in Brooklyn, NY, that wholesales Tahari, Jones New York, Kasper, BCBG, Coach, Polo Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger, and other top of the line brands found in the United States and Europe.

Besides Nigeria, CloseoutExplosion.com reviews many related wholesale topics. The New York dress wholesaler also exports wholesale products to other African countries including Botswana, Kenya, South Africa, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. While local markets have differing fashion needs and wants, Donny has found that there is a very large demand for American designer labels in the African clothing market.

Dovetail Travel in Peace Announces the Launch of 'Travel Safe Body Bands' for Women Travelers

Alex Ivory is the founder of Dovetail travel in peace and a world traveler. Ivory has been living, working and traveling abroad for over two decades, working mostly as a Business Trainer and on various entrepreneurial projects. During that time there were only a handful of potentially dangerous situations, but most travelers have a 'sixth sense' about when to take extra precautions. She had her 'moment of knowing' while traveling in South America last year. Ivory took the traditional money belt and 're imagined' it into an ultralight, modern, minimal system of 'travel safe body bands', made exclusively for women travelers. It was a perfect dovetailing in terms of truth and experience for Ivory, and a most practical project with the focus being on keeping women and their travel essentials safe.

'It had to be streamlined and effortless, with form following function and disguised as inner wear' says Ivory. She then ventured out to design prototypes and developed two distinct options for women travelers; the 'travel band' and the 'travel wing'. The 'travel band' is a long, stretch band which wraps around the hips and features a long inner pocket for the portfolio. The 'travel band' is worn over the underwear. The other option is a more inventive, the 'travel wing' wraps around the upper body and features a back pocket which holds the portfolio. The 'travel wing' is worn over the bra.

The Dovetail travel in peace 'travel safe bod women's jackets y band' set includes; the 'travel band', the 'travel wing', the portfolio for travel documents; the passport or a copy of the passport, bank cards and extra cash as well as a small, carry bag.

'Travel with confidence, knowing that travel essentials are secure, concealed on the body', says Ivory. Choose which travel safe option to use and when. 'Be organized', says Ivory, 'Only access the portfolio in private'.

The Dovetail travel in peace, 'travel safe body bands' are made of strong, semi sheer, stretch power net and move on the body, hidden under the clothes.

Enjoy time exploring, not fretting about travel essentials.

From Nantucket to Namibia, Montana to Mazatlan, Galway to the Galapagos

Tukatech and Killer Jeans finalized a deal that will provide software solutions to Kewal Kiran Clothing Limited (KKCL), one of India's leading producers of high-quality branded clothing for men and women of all ages.
In 1989, KKCL developed the Killer line of denim which quickly became one of the most popular brands in India. Since then, the company has implemented cutting edge garment design and manufacturing technology to maintain their dominance in the worldwide apparel marketplace. KKCL has also established a large retail presence selling their brands directly to the consumer, and currently operates more than 240 outlets across India with plans for further expansion.

KKCL's decision to install Tukatech's TUKAcad and TUKA3D for fit development is part of their continued use of innovative technology.

KKCL credits much of their success to their large and efficient manufacturing processes. With an enormous capacity that can accommodate sourcing, finishing, and everything in between, KKCL's ability to produce high quality garments with quick turnarounds will be streamlined by using Tukatech's products. TUKAcad, Tukatech's award-winning CAD system, will allow each pattern maker to make and grade patterns with better accuracy in a shorter amount of time, and SMARTmark will allow marker makers to maximize fabric usage in the cutting room.

In addition to manufacturing garments, KKCL have developed several leading brands that combine the company's popular designs with their exacting production standards. By adopting TUKA3D, KKCL will be able to create realistic 3D prototypes that demonstrate color, texture, fit, and movement in complex clothing patterns, reducing the new product development time and allowing them to be more innovative and offer more choices to their consumers.

The Killer brand is one of the most recognized brands in India, and KKCL has been very successful in developing other brands and product lines such as LAWMAN, INTEGRITI, EASIES, and CHICA, with more in development. From shoes to hats, belts to cologne and deodorant, the stores offer a lifestyle appropriate to their brand name and fashion.

KKCL has advanced their own garment technology by developing patented seams, stitches, and washes for their own brands, all of which were created by the company's designers. By using TUKA3D to design and test future innovations, KKCL will be able to immediately assess and visualize their work on a life-like, three-dimensional avatar that demonstrates how the clothes look, fit and drape on a human being. As KKCL continues to pioneer new ways to make garments, Tukatech will offer both technology and support to turn their vision into reality.

"Tukatech is proud to work with Kewal Kiran Clothing Limited, one of India's most prestigious manufacturers and the home of several of the natio women's jackets n's leading brands," said Tukatech founder and CEO Mr. Ram Sareen. Dad Has Saved Your Skin: Here is a Chance to Save His

Research has shown that women are much better at practicing sun safety than men. In fact, the vast majority of sun protective ads appear in women's magazines because these companies know their customers: Women are interested in sun protection. Men tend not to be.

Men are less likely than women to protect their skin by covering up with UPF (ultraviolet protection factor) clothing, wearing sunscreen, and/or staying out of the sun. Men know less about sun protection than women but that may be by choice.

Sunscreen, for example, is viewed by many men as a cosmetic and men are not as interested in using skin care products. Men do not care for the feel and smell of sunscreens, regarding them as greasy and "girly". Some men also choose vanity over sun safety. They feel they look better with a tan and do not want anything to interfere with "tanning." The problem is that there is no safe tanning. Tans are caused by harmful UV (ultraviolet) radiation and are the result of skin cell damage. Cumulative exposure can lead to premature aging as well as skin cancer. Effects of this excessive exposure are not immediately evident. Most sun damage takes years to develop, sometimes up to thirty years.

Here are four easy ways to stop the sunscreen excuses:

  •     Purchase sunscreens that are unscented. A sunscreen does not have to be scented to be effective.
  •     To eliminate that "sticky" feeling, try a sport sunscreen that absorbs quickly.
  •     Use water or alcohol-based sun products. These types of sunscreens are not greasy and there are actually more of these types of sunscreens on the market than oil-based products.
  •     To avoid sunscreen dripping into the eyes and stinging, try a stick sunscreen on the forehead and eye area. They are quick and easy to apply and best of all stay put even in contact with perspiration or water. It is important to note, that sunscreen should never be applied directly in the eye area. Use sunglasses to protect this delicate area instead. Avoid products that contain preservatives, dyes and artificial fashion coats online fragrances as these ingredients can hurt the eyes.

Father Day Gift suggestions include: Golf Hats, Golf Sleeves, Driving Sleeves and Sun Gloves.

SunGrubbies.com offers products that have been approved and recommended by the Skin Cancer Foundation, the Melanoma International Foundation and the Skin and Cancer Federation of Australia. Every product has been laboratory tested for their sun protective ability and every purchase is 100% guaranteed for satisfaction.

Olin College Teams Excel in Recent Engineering Competitions

Olin's Phoenix Racing team, Human Powered Vehicle (HPV) team, and Sailbot team recently competed in three separate engineering events. Each placed highly in its respective competition.

Olin's Phoenix Racing team competing in 2012 Baja SAE East, made the trip to Auburn University's National Center for Asphalt Technology in Opelika, Ala., in April to compete against eighty-six teams from all over the country. The thirty-member squad traveled to Alabama with their off-road, mini-baja vehicle in the back of a truck. With its sleek design and exceptional endurance, the vehicle led Olin's Baja SAE team to success in the Hill Climb (44th place), Suspension (29th place), Land Maneuverability (29th place), Acceleration (43rd place), and Endurance (50th place) individual competitions. Overall, the team placed 44th in the 2012 competition.

Olin's Phoenix Racing team is sponsored by Boeing, National Instruments, BOSE, Autodesk, Barrett Technology, MacDiarmid, MOM South and Mortgage Capital; as well as The Patterson Family, Andrew Tsang '09, Michael Siripong '07, The Andree Family, The Gutcher Family, The Martelaro Family, The Raymond Family and The McMullen Family.

The Olin College Human Powered Vehicle team recently competed in ASME's Human Powered Vehicle Competition East ([ASME HPVC) at Grove Street College in Grove City, Pa., taking home the 2012 Knovel Award for Design Innovation, a third place finish and placing in the top five in every event.

The team won the 2012 Knovel? Award for Design Innovation for their ingenious rider variation compensation system, which allowed for quick and easy height adjustments between tall and short riders. Olin placed third overall out of thirty-two teams; and placed third in the Design Event, third in the Women's Speed Event, fifth in the Men's Speed Event and second in the Endurance Event. Even though Olin's HPV team may not have duplicated last year's first place standing, it did create a great deal of buzz across the Internet for a crash that can be seen here.

"I love the Olin HPV team because it allows me to gain experience in mechanical engineering projects outside of courses," said Jackie Rose, a co-leader of Olin's team. "I also really enjoy building a vehicle for a competition, because it gives us a high goal to strive towards. Also, the team itself is an excellent group of people, and I love working with all of the people on it.

This year's sponsors included Kazak, who gave the Olin HPV team a large amount of carbon fiber cloth; CD-adapco, who granted the team licenses for simulations software; Landry's Bicycles for various bicycle parts; the Olin Student Academic Grant Committee; and alumni Eamon Doyle, Casey Canfield, Jacob Izraelevitz, David Stamp, and Jacob West. The faculty advisor was Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering Aaron Hoover.

A team with far less experience in competition, Olin's Sailbot team, was founded just this year by James Regulinski '12, Jaime McCandless '12, Jason Curtis '12, Andrew Fabian '12, and Abe Feldman '12. It didn't take long, however, for the team to enter their project into competition. The robotic sailing team recently made its way to Vancouver, B.C., for the 6th International Robotic Sailboat Championship, despite having to disassemble and reassemble its boat for the lengthy trip.

With the help of an impressive performance in the Navigation Contest, Olin College and its Sailbot, named 'Blackbody Radiation,' were able to claim second place out of nine teams from all over the United States and Canada. Six events took place and each event was scored on a ten point scale. Olin College placed fourth and second in the two fleet races, second in the Station Keep fashion jackets ing event, first (three way tie) in the Navigation event, second in the presentation event, and second in the Long Distance event.

"I participate in Sailbot because it's fun, it's exciting, and I'm pushing the boundaries of what I know how to do," said team member Eric Schneider. "The team did great at the IRSC in Vancouver, taking 2nd place by just a few points in its rookie year. We are really excited to expand and further define the mission of the team this year -- we don't want to be defined by the IRSC -- our goal for the end of 2012 -- but instead use it explicitly as a stepping stone, an intermediate waypoint on the way to an advanced, useful robotic platform propelled by the wind."

The team's rookie year became even better, as team representatives Jaime McCandless and Jason Curtis, along with faculty members Drew Bennett and Dave Barrett, were selected to give a keynote presentation about Sailbot at National Instruments Week 2012 (NI Week August 6-9 2012). National Instruments has arranged to ship out Olin's competition boat for show and is even assembling a demo of the Olin Sailbot Team's small R/C test platform. The presentation will be eight minutes long and will draw an audience of 4,500 engineers.

The Olin College Sailbot Team was sponsored by Olin College, National Instruments, CustomMade.com, and Olin's HPV and Baja clubs. The faculty advisor is Drew Bennett, but the team also has garnered much assistance from faculty members Scott Harris, Garland O'Connell, and Dave Barrett.

Financial Press: Respect Your Universe set to Trade in Canada

Respect Your Universe, Inc., a premium performance apparel and equipment company, is poised to begin trading in Canada on Friday on the TSX Venture Exchange. - (Financial Press)

RYU designs and manufactures athletic clothing for mixed martial arts, and has been listed in the US since last April. The company has witnessed tremendous growth since then and credits this to their close ties to the sport.

"RYU is a great brand with awesome gear and good people that offer top notch support for fighters like me," said Jamie Varner, a popular Lightweight MMA fighter.

RYU provides men's and women's products, and we will focus on the wholesale market in Canada, along with MMA specialty shops and online to international customers.

"We understand that per capita Mixed Martial Arts is more popular in Canada than the USA," said RYU Chairman, Kristian Andresen. "Obviously we have seen the success lululemon athletica has achieved starting in Vancouver and want to capitalize on consumers that share those sensibilities."

Lululemon's stock currently trades around $58, down significantly from an all-time high of $80 in May.

RYU has 23 retail partners globally – not including the company's website RYU.com.

"Online is available to all of Canada," said Andresen. "L2 in Vancouver, KTB MMA in Surrey, and Hype Fight Shop in Calgary, are currently offering the products, and we have other accounts pending."

Cross-fit is another booming area where the company will be expanding into.

"RYU is the brand inspired by training technologies, and philosophy," said Andresen. "RYU believes that a positive presence in relation to Martial Arts is what people are gravitating towards. Martial Arts isn't about tattoos, skulls getting smashed and intimidation to RYU it's about being disciplined, the traditions, honor and of course respect for one's opponent."

The appeal of the RYU brand has already inspired confidence among investors. Last week RYU announced the completion of a public offering of shares of common stock.

"We are extremely pleased to have announced the closing of the offering," said Andresen. "We look forward to our listing on the TSXV, and believe it is a step in the continued success of our growing brand."

In the offering, RYU sold a total of 5,882,500 shares at a price of $0.85 per share for total gross proceeds of $5,000,125. The shares will trade on the TSXV on August 10, under the symb women's coats online ol "RYU".

Salman Partners Inc. acted as placement agent for the offering. Salman Partners Inc. is an independent, research-driven investment dealer. Since 2010, Salman Partners has participated in $423 million new equity.

RYU expects to continue their staggering growth in what remains a very tough market. With so much achieved to date, what challenges lie ahead for RYU?

"Being a new brand is challenging but we see we are winning people over every day," said Andresen. "RYU will continue to be successful with consumers as it delivers quality products that people can feel good about and feel good wearing."

Founded on the principles of respect, strength, honor and sustainability, and influenced by the dedication of the athlete to the ancient sport of Martial Arts, RYU's innovative premium apparel and product for both performance and lifestyle was created to inspire all athletes to achieve greatness.

But that's not all that's different about RYU.

By producing products that are environmentally, and ethically, sound, all of RYU's apparel and products are comprised of up to 90% organic and recycled materials utilizing some of the best yarn and fabric suppliers in the world.

Through the creation of innovative apparel and products that have less of an impact on the environment, RYU's fabrics and technologies boast the attributes of Moisture Control Fabric (AIR Weave), Thermal Control Fabric (FIRE Weave), Weather Resistant Fabric (WIND Weave) and Eco-Friendly Fabric (TERRA Weave). RYU's authenticity in its apparel and products is also reflected in the design of each item containing one or more symbols from ancient Samurai iconography.

Efforts like these have been supported by smart marketing initiatives. For instance, RYU is an official sponsor of the UFC and will be visible in various elements throughout the UFC events in 2012 including logo displays and live announcements during bouts along with television promotions and placement on the UFC website including their web store.

So what else is new?

RYU released their Men's Fall 2012 Collection and new Women's Fall 2012 Line last month so that Martial Arts enthusiasts who train at the House of RYU athletic facility in Las Vegas will also be able to wear RYU's premium performance apparel and gear specifically designed to enhance their overall performance.

RYU plans to open new retail stores in the ne ar future, and with the release of the Men's 2012 Fall Collection and unveiling of the new Women's 2012 Fall Line, RYU retail locations have 120 styles available from both the Men's and Women's Fall Lines in the store for customers including apparel and accessories.

To help luxury lovers stay informed on the latest in upscale style and Hollywood happenings, Rodeo Drive Resale (http://www.shopRDR.com), premier reseller of 100% authentic guaranteed handbags and fashions including top designer pieces such as discount Chanel purses, Christian Dior wallets and Louis Vuitton clothing, highlights the latest in celebrity and designer fashion news.

1)    FASHION DESIGNER STRIPPED OF AWARD: Disgraced fashion designer John Galliano, who once served as a designer for Givenchy and later artistic director for Christian Dior, was recently stripped of an award. On August 27, France's leading Jewish group announced that Galliano had lost the right to wear the French Legion of Honour medal. This is just the latest blow to the designer's legacy following a Paris Courts' decision which found him guilty of making anti-Semitic remarks in 2011. "What he said made him unworthy of wearing this decoration," The Associated Press quoted Richard Prasquier, president of the Jewish group CRIF, as saying on August 27. "There are some convictions that aren't compatible with the award." Last February, footage of Gallioano shouting anti-Semitic remarks toward a group of women landed online, which led to suspended fines and his termination from Christian Dior.

2)    THE NEW VINTAGE: The French fashion house founded by style visionary Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel has unveiled its autumn/winter 2012/13 haute couture collection, which gives a nod to the 'New Vintage' movement, offering a refreshing edge to classic silhouette designs. "I wanted a modern elegance, casual," Chanel fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld said in a July 2012 story posted by The Toronto Sun. Next month, Chanel's Little Black Jacket exhibition will his UK shores, an event slated to commemorate the release of The Little Black Jacket: Chanel's classic revisited by Karl Lagerfeld and Carine Roitfeld, a collection of photos taken by Lagerfield that capture celebs and models sporting the iconic jacket.

3)    OPERATION TAKEOVER: The self-appointed "Louis Vuitton Don" better known as rapper Kanye West often raps about his affinity for luxury fashion and style. But during a recent episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians, West's girlfriend, reality television star Kim Kardashian, learned just how seriously he takes decadence after telling her to empty her entire closet in order to make room for an new wardrobe. While some might see the move as a bit controlling, Kim revealed she is lear women's coats online ning a lot from the Grammy-Award winning musician. "Kanye has definitely inspired me to wanna, like, be a little bit more of an individual," she said, adding that the closet cleaning was as much a shock to her as viewers at home. "It's so ironic that I'm the one that's always giving my friends their closet makeovers so for the roles to be reversed it's like 'Oh My God."

Rare Opportunity for Breast Cancer Survivor to Win a Complete Turnkey Ecommerce Business from Pure-Ecommerce.com

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month, Pure-Ecommerce.com is giving a breast cancer survivor the opportunity to own their own turnkey internet business. Founder and CEO Jennifer Varner, who is a three-year breast cancer survivor, "hopes to show others fighting this disease that life does go on after cancer and great things can be in store for them!"

Now through October 31, 2012, Pure-Ecommerce.com is holding its Second Annual Survive & Thrive Business Giveaway. Breast cancer survivors are invited to enter the giveaway for a chance to win http://www.stylishteeshirts.com, one of Varner's turnkey ecommerce business-in-a-box solutions plus 40 hours of full consulting and mentoring. They may do so by visiting Pure-Ecommerce's Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Pure-Ecommerce/151056601629813) and clicking on the Survive & Thrive sweepstakes icon. The drawing will take place on November 1, 2012. The winner will be notified and will also be listed on http://www.pure-ecommerce.com, http://www.JenniferVarner.com, and Pure-Ecommerce's Facebook page.

Surviving and thriving is something Varner knows a great deal about. Her husband, Jeff, was diagnosed with cancer just three weeks after their wedding. At only 29 years old, they were told by the doctors that Jeff had only a slim chance at life and that they would never have children. The Varners were devastated...but also determined. Miraculously while Jeff was undergoing treatment, Jennifer discovered she was pregnant. The young couple beat the cancer and soon thereafter welcomed their first child.

Three years ago, Varner found out she herself had invasive breast cancer after celebrating the 10th year of her husband being free from colon cancer. At the time she was three months pregnant and her greatest fear was for the health of her unborn child. She chose to fight the cancer. This meant undergoing a mastectomy and enduring chemotherapy treatments all while being pregnant. Her husband Jeff became a role model and her unborn child provided her the strength to withstand the arduous treatments. Fortunately, the baby was born healthy, and they are all grateful to be alive. The Varner's named their son Kilian which means small and mighty.

Jennifer feels so lucky and wants to give back as much as she can. After going through breast cancer, she started a non-profit organization called Kilian's Kids, named after her son Kilian who survived chemotherapy along with her. That organization gives laptops and tablets to kids going through cancer.

"Today my husband is cancer free! Today I am cancer free! Most importantly, my baby, Kilian, is perfect! He is a survivor too; he took that long hard journey with me. Through these events I have gained so much knowledge, wisdom and strength - more than I ever had, and more then I knew I could gain in a lifetime. I live every moment, every day like it's my last. But I know it's not, I plan on having an amazing future. I have overcome and thrived."

Now it's Varner's desire through the 2nd Annual Survive and Thrive Business Giveaway to give back to another breast cancer survivor who has overcome. "I want to empower a woman and give her hope as she moves on and recovers from this life changing disease. Most of all I want to give her the vision to look towards to a future that can be bright and full of possibilities."

What Are The Real Rainforest Facts?

We all know a few facts about rainforests from Tarzan movies; for instance, in the rainforest you will find lush green vegetation, exotic animals, restless natives, and usually a few white men up to no good. But beyond those stereotypes, what are the real rainforest facts? What is the status of the world's rainforests, and why is it important to preserve them?

Here's the first rainforest fact: Rainforests are the oldest ecosystems on earth - they have been evolving for 70-100 million years.

The largest rainforest in the world is the Amazonrainforest in South America, which covers an area about two-thirds the size of the continental United States. To date, more than a quarter of a million square miles of Amazon rainforest have been cleared - about 17.5 percent of it.

Average temperatures in rainforests stay relatively constant year-round, usually in the 75-80F range.

Mongabay lists the following countries as having the largest areas of rainforest:

1) Brazil
2) Congo (Democratic Republic)
3) Indonesia
4) Peru
5) Bolivia
6) Angola
7) Venezuela
8) Papua New Guinea
9) Mexico
10) India

Although most rainforests are found in tropical regions, they are sometimes also found in temperate-zone countries like Canada, the United States, and some of the former-USSR countries. Like tropical rainforests, these rainforests receive abundant, year-round rainfall and have a dense rainforest canopy, but they do not get the year-round consistent sunlight and warmth.

To be considered a rainforest, the forest must get at least 80 inches of rain per year. Most tropical rainforests get anywhere from 160 to 400 inches of rain a year. That's a lot compared to Grinning Planet's home state of Kentucky, which gets a moderate amount of rainfall - 0-45 inches per year.

In some tropical rainforests, sudden deluges of rain can cause streams to rise 10-20 feet in a couple of hours.

Rainforests create their own mini-climates - the water that evaporates from the forest forms clouds above the area and later falls as rain. Not all of the water stays local, of course, but in the Amazon rainforest, 50-80% of the water remains in the local ecosystem's water cycle. When rainforests are cut down, much of the moisture in the ecosystem is lost, leading to droughts and further devastation of species.

A tropical rainforest consists of four layers:

1) canopy -- the level where most of the tops of the trees are

2) emergent trees -- the few trees that manage to grow tall enough to poke up above the canopy

3) understory -- young trees and shrubs below the canopy, where growth is limited by lack of strong sunlight

4) forest floor -- fallen leaves and branches and dead trees; some animals and insects; dark and humid; lots of decomposition and recycling.

The top few inches of rainforest soil has most of the nutrients, so the roots of rainforest trees are not very deep. Most of the plant growth is in the emergent and canopy layers, where the sun is strongest. That means most of the available nutrients are there too, so it makes sense that most rainforest animals, including monkeys, birds, and tree frogs, live in the canopy.

Rainforests cover only 2% of the earth's surface, but they host more than half of the planet's plant and animal species - more species per acre than any other type of land-based ecosystem on the planet. The main reasons for this are:

1) the mega-doses of sunlight and rainfall in the rainforests make for lots of plant growth, which means lots of food for lots of animals; and

2) the structure of the canopy, which has a large volume with many varied niches for plants and animals to fill.

The sidebar to the right gives fun facts about five rainforest species. For more interesting facts about rainforest species, check out the general species pages from Rainforest Alliance or Rainforest Action Network; or these themed species pages from Mongabay, which have great pictures as well as basic information about rainforest species:

1) Mammals
2) Birds
3) Reptiles and Amphibians
4) Fish
5) Insects

Some animals that normally live outside the tropics - including hummingbirds, warblers and thousands of other North American birds - migrate to spend their winters in rainforests.

One poison-dart frog produces enough toxin to coat 50 to 100 poison darts. Leafcutter ants practice sustainable agriculture. They gather fragments from different plants and trees, thus ensuring that no species is harvested to the point of harm and limiting the ability of any one species to evolve to build up defenses against the leafcutters' operations.

The cocoa tree - whose pods are the source of chocolate - originated in the lowland rainforests near the Amazon River in South America but is now cultivated as far north as southern Mexico.

The coffee plant is another shade-lover. Unfortunately, in the 1970s, many coffee farmers began planting coffee bushes that produced higher yields and required no shade. This has resulted in the clearing of forested area for more full-sun coffee plantations.

Poinsettias originated in the tropical forests of southern Mexico and Central America but are now the number-one flowering potted plant in the US.

There are many now-common foods that originated from rainforest plants:

1) Beverages and snacks: coffee, cocoa, popcorn, cola, salsa

2) Nuts and legumes: cashews, peanuts, Brazil nuts

3) Fruit: bananas, pineapples, oranges, lemons, coconuts

4) Staples: rice

5) Vegetables: avocados, onions, tomatoes, eggplants, peppers

6) Spices: ginger, cinnamon, vanilla

We're sorry to report, however, that the vast world of plants and animals in the rainforest is suffering. An average of 137 rainforest species are driven to extinction every day. The number one cause is loss of habitat due to logging for lumber or tree clearing to provide land for farming and cattle ranching. Another problem is trade in rainforest species - sometimes legal, sometimes not - for exotic pets and plants; for fur, clothing, and shoes; even for research animals.

Pollution from industrial operations like mining and oil extraction also take a toll. Finally, climate change is emerging as a serious threat to rainforest animals; many biologists now believe climate change is second only habitat destruction in its capacity to wipe out species.

T women's jackets online he Amazon rainforest is sometimes called the "lungs of the planet" - it recycles enough carbon dioxide to produce more than 20% of the world's oxygen. Globally, rainforests also play a critical part in maintaining the earth's climate by helping regulate hydrologic cycles and by storing massive amounts of carbon that might otherwise be converted to heat-trapping carbon dioxide. Rainforests are estimated to be storing 610 billion tons of carbon.

Rainforests that are cleared by burning generate the most immediate release of CO2. But even plant debris that is left to rot causes a problem. In a healthy rainforest, dead leaves and trees are broken down into nutrients that are then quickly converted back to new plant growth, which uses carbon dioxide and locks it away where it can't add to the problem of greenhouse gas build-up. In a cleared forest, the nutrients and carbon dioxide are still produced graphic of logger during the breakdown of dead plant and animal matter, but there is no lush growth to use the CO2, so it floats up into the atmosphere to add to global warming.

While destruction of rainforests adds to the global warming problem, global warming itself hurts rainforests. As the earth's climate warms, it tends to dry out the rainforests and causes there to be less rainfall there. As the rainforest dries out, its ecosystems begin to degrade and the area becomes more susceptible to natural fire events, which cause further rainforest destruction. Roots that once held soil in place are no longer there, so when it does rain, the topsoil washes away, making reestablishment of rainforest areas difficult or impossible. Further, the eroded soil washes into streams and rivers, polluting the water and degrading aquatic habitat.

The clearing of rainforests is a big negative in earth's CO2 equation. Release of carbon dioxide from the carbonaceous materials in the soil of cleared, burned, and drought-devastated rainforest areas is one of a number of "feedback loops" that scientists think could lead to runaway climate change - that is, climate change that is driven by factors that we no longer can combat, no matter how much we try.

So, because climate change and rainforest health are, in fact, closely connected, implementing your own personal global warming solutions will help the rainforests.

Rainforests are amazing sources of products, both in terms of uniqueness and volume. But that can be a good thing or a bad thing, depending on the way production is managed. Some products, such as plants for medicines, Brazil nuts, and shade-grown coffee and cocoa, can be sustainably harvested from rainforests without damaging or destroying the forests. Unfortunately, such operations often are done in an unsustainable manner. Industrial operations such as gold mining and oil extraction are usually very destructive to rainforests.

Logging operations for tropical timber products are often done by clearcutting and have contributed to much of the destruction of tropical rainforests. Each year, more than thirty million tropical rainforest acres are destroyed.

Tropical rainforests have given us pharmaceuticals to treat or cure problems such as inflammation, fungal diseases, rheumatism, diabetes, muscle tension, malaria, heart conditions, skin diseases, arthritis, and glaucoma. The US National Cancer Institute has identified over 2,200 rainforest plants that are active against cancer cells. And those are just the ones they've looked at so far. Many, many more rainforest-based compounds remain to be evaluated for their healing properties. But that future bounty is put at risk by the continued loss of rainforest acreage and species.

Logging advocates are fond of saying that today the world actually has more acres of forest land than it did in the past, with the implication being that there is still plenty of forest for us to cut down, including rainforests and other old growth forests. But clearcutting a rainforest and then replanting trees does not leave us with the same original forest - not even close. While it is possible for a company to replant the trees, it is impossible for the company to recreate an ancient forest with its complex ecosystem of plants, animals, insects, and people that lived there before all the original trees were cut down. Only nature can create healthy rainforest ecosystems, and she takes thousands, sometimes millions, of years to do it.

Rainforests are fascinating, exotic places, full of ecological and mineral riches. But continued unsustainable exploitation of those riches is damaging the rainforests, and because of their connection to global climate change, these actions (among other things) endanger us all.

Are You An Avid Online Shopper?

Online Shopping definitely isn't something new, however, it does seem to be getting more and more popular every single year. People shopping online do so for a few reasons; one is the convenience, two is the security, three is because its easy and quick and lastly on most websites you find online the prices are quite less than they would be if you bought it on a regular offline store. A Professional Is Not Always Needed To Do Home Repairs

With the right tools and enough knowledge, you can make just about any dream project become a reality. The following article is filled with everything you need to know to begin working on your home. If you put these tips to use, you will be able to have the home that you have always wanted.

Use natural materials for interior home improvement projects whenever the budget will possibly allow it. Real building supplies like wood and stone are much better than using synthetic ones. They last longer and are better looking too. The initial expense up-front for these materials may pay off over time because they will last longer.

To prevent air from escaping through your doors, buy draft excluders and sealant strips. Excluders go under the door and prevent hot air from going out and cool from coming in. Sealant strips can be used for this as well. You can get them at most hardware stores.

If you do find leaks beneath the sink or the faucet, avoid fixing it yourself. Just make sure you put a vessel large enough to collect the water underneath the leak and then call a plumber.

When you want to re-stain your deck, you have many choices available. You can find clear coat products as well as products that provide a rich colorful stain. In addition, you will find some options that are water-based and others that are oil-based. Each type of stain has its benefits and drawbacks, so carefully research your options to determine which is best for your deck.

If the home requires significant repair prior to your occupancy, make sure the major things are finished first. Small projects like completing your basement, altering paint colors, and renovating bathrooms can be done in pieces after you've mo fashion jackets ved in.

CFL bulbs are great for saving money and helping the environment. You do, however, need to know what to do if one breaks. Clear the immediate area of all people and pets, and allow air into the room. Pick up all the glass pieces; you can even use duct tape to get up the littlest fragments. Double-bag the broken pieces to dispose of and thoroughly vacuum the area. Be sure to empty your canister or bag directly after that.

If you are thinking about renovating your home, then you should consider how long your new appliances will last. A new refrigerator usually lasts twenty years of more, while a new washer or dryer lasts only about half that long. Make sure you pick the appliances wisely.

Are you disappointed with the renovations performed by your contractor? If so, don't be afraid to voice your opinion. Begin with your contractor and let him know the portions of the contract you believe he has violated. Go through the mail if you're not getting anywhere over the phone. From there, contact a consumer protection office to get more help.

Do bugs often keep you from enjoying the great outdoors? Consider installing a screened structure to your house. A screened area is a wonderful place to relax by yourself and feel fresh air or spend some enjoyable time together with friends and family. For added comfort you can install a ceiling fan.

Vinyl decks are a popular home improvement project. To extend the life of your vinyl deck and keep it looking its best, you must clean it well two times yearly. The best time of the year to sweep your vinyl deck clean is in the spring and the fall.

Don't stray from your neighborhood's character when making improvements to the exterior of your home. A house that is too unique may be thought of as an eyesore, and won't sell well later.

Are you searching for a low cost way to improve your home's look and value. You can create a nice landscape with some rock walls. The rocks aren't costly at all, as you can find them yourself for free! Look online to find instructions on how you can use rocks to form walkways and flower bed edgings.

Use tape over trim if you're going to paint the walls. No matter how careful you try to be, you will probably have a problem with paint dripping and running. Careful use of tape will protect your woodwork from unwanted paint drips. However, if you get running paint on the trim, then repainting it may be required.

When you complete a home improvement and you are successful at it, not only will it make you more confident, it will also improve upon the appearance of your home and elevate its value. If you don't have much experience with construction or home maintenance, you may need the information here to make your project successful.

Men's Suits for Fashionable Winters

Offices might not adjust their dress codes for the winter, but that doesn't mean that your own wardrobe has to be just as inflexible. Unchanging fashion etiquette does not call for you to wear the same suits you did for summer, which are likely to be, in terms of style and practicality, unsuitable for the colder seasons. Here's how to warm up to your suits in a whole new way to get you looking sharp even during those cold snaps.

Have Some Heft
Cotton is an ideal fabric for most other months of the year and wool is cool for temperate times. When the mercury really starts falling, though, you'll want to get suits (and other pieces) that have more substance and thickness to them for those colder days.

Winter suits are best done in tweed, that trusty staple fabric of men's fashion from across the Atlantic. More cold-ready than cotton and outstanding than plain old wool, tweed makes even the most tired and typical style of suit seem more dapper than usual. The slim gray suit in tweed - worn with strategic pops of color on the shirt and socks - is one of this winter season's most coveted trends.

Even neckties seem to be getting a heft upgrades these days. Now that you probably own at least one knit tie to give your wardrobe some non-silk texture, you may want to play around with the idea of wool ties. Fabrics used in suits are now being used for a wider range of men's apparel - including neckties. A tie in these heavier textiles are appropriate for the harsh winter weather, especially in dark colors and strong prints like plaid.

Love Some Layers

Yes, thick suit jackets do give you a fair amount of insulation - if you consider them in a vacuum. Once you think about that subzero temperature outside, however, you'll think twice about wearing just a shirt and tie with your suit. Additio women's coats nal layers aren't just for heating you up; they're also a chance to insert an extra style statement into every outfit.

Slim, sleek sweaters, none of that chumpy, chunky variety for layering with suits, are key style pieces to have this winter. Layer a solid or subtly patterned one over the barest of shirt and tie combinations and you'll have yourself some instant color and life in your ensemble. Remember, though, to keep your v-neck sweater slim-fitted and distinct from all the rest of your clothes, particularly the suit.

On the other side of the suit jacket, you'll also want to consider picking up a topcoat or pea coat for facing the bitter cold. Solids are your best bet - patterned coats are for more advanced fashion adopters, with navy, gray and black at the front line. As with sweaters, stick to a color that's close yet distinguishable from that of your suit.

Consider Some Color
With the dreary gray outside and the uniform dark colors of your suit and underpinnings, it's not a far off chance for your outfit to become boring. Men's fashion relies a lot on contrast, and adding even a little bit of color to your outfit gives you just that.

As your suit, necktie, sweater and outerwear are most likely in dark, heavy colors, shirts in bright and light shades should create some levity in your look. Pastels that aren't too light - mint greens and light yellows, for example - should pop quite nicely against your winter suiting backdrop. Socks and pocket squares make good substitutes for the necktie when it comes to contributing small and subtle pockets of color here and there.

Your shoes could also use a color update. Instead of the black lace-ups you likely wear to work every day, pick up a pair in caramel or burnished brown leather. They make a refreshing change from noir, without straying from the bounds of formalness at the same time. Laced up over a pair of vibrant socks in a fun color, brown shoes are the kind of accessories that get noticed at the office and make a definite sartorial impression.
